FEATURED ARTIST: MORGAN "THE CEO"
Morgan
MORGAN, a calculated, magnetic phenom of an emcee, trailblazing in the footsteps of Hip Hop’s revered greats is not only a viable participant in DC’s overflowing indie music community, but is also the CEO of FM Media Group, creating the company in 2009 to provide professional level artistic work to clients, as well as provide additional opportunities for exposure to fellow artists and musicians.
By far one of the most humble people you will ever meet, Morgan is a 26 year old female hip hop artist from Washington, DC. A self-proclaimed “lyrical poet", MORGAN looks towards the infamous greats for inspiration, but does not rely on their sound to create her own. “I have artists that I look up to and I plan to be better than them; Or at least respected enough to stand next to them." Morgan is a calculated, magnetic phenom of an emcee, trailblazing in the footsteps of Hip Hop’s revered greats, she is nothing short of avant-garde, challenging the status quo and pushing forth in an industry that considers her second to her male counterparts. She’s been described as an electric, mesmerizing, intelligent female emcee. If you asked her opinion of how she views herself, she simply states, “ I'm a musician. I don't just rap. I love music. I love the artistry in itself. And don't call me a femcee, don't box me in.” After every show she leaves supporters and newcomers alike pleased and excited by her performance and the refreshing guttural "realness" of her sound and lyricism. MORGAN has undoubtedly prepared herself for the next step in her journey. Cradling a keen sense of self, an unnaturally gritty approach and bare-bones delivery, MORGAN is most certainly NOT your average chick...no matter how unhumble that sounds. MORGAN is here...and definitely to stay.

"RUNNING RED LIGHTS"
Bossladys Review:
The Intro...Running Red Lights sets off the precedent to what I know will be a successful album. Ladies this is YOUR ANTHEM!!
The Intro...Running Red Lights sets off the precedent to what I know will be a successful album. Ladies this is YOUR ANTHEM!!
My favorites tracks on the album are "Hello" which happens to be about Mina's daughter, for my ladies listen to "Nameless" "Circle Games" and "I'm Tired". "The Chase" reminds me of a Tribe Called Quest tempo...I felt like rockin' my head to side ;)
I usually pick one song that becomes my number one...but Mina brought the damn thing to the table and I had to choose two."Anything" tops my favorite list, featuring Tef Wesley and ST/MIC it gives off the Neo-Soul vibe and the production made the song something to dance to, rock to, and snap your fingers to!!! "Tomorrow" is the sweetest melody and a wonderful way to end the album on. AWESOME WORK MINA!!

SPOTLIGHT ON THE DJ: DJ MIM
DJ MIM
DJ MIM is a female DJ whose life-long love affair with music drew her to the craft of deejaying. She was born and resides in the nation’s capital, Washington, DC, where the music scene has mainly been known for the underground genre, Go-Go. Growing up during the 80s, she didn’t realize after scratching on – and scratching up – her first record at the age of 8, that 20 years later she would leave corporate America, launch her own mobile entertainment service and become a professional DJ. Throughout the years leading up to her DJ career, DJ MIM amassed a vast and very diverse music collection. A lot of DJs get locked into just being able to perform a specific genre, but she definitely is not a one-genre DJ. She enjoys and spins an eclectic mix including: Hip-Hop, Reggae, R&B, Pop, Soca, House, Go-Go, Alternative/Rock, Dubstep, Electro & Trance. She has always followed the careers of and been influenced by DJs such as: Grandmaster Flash, Jam Master Jay, Jazzy Jeff, Kool Herc, Red Alert and Beverly Bond. After spending some time in the Philippines in 2007, DJ MIM was energized by the performance and skills of the Filipino club DJs and their use of Serato (vinyl emulation software). After returning to the States she decided to digitally convert her entire music collection for use with Serato. When performing, she prefers to use the old-school set up - turntables.
DJ MIM studied the greats and prides herself on being a self-taught DJ whose style reflects a passion for blending and mixing music. Every time she touches the turntables she likes to create her own signature soundtrack. Her skills create a memorable experience for every event she performs at and leaves the crowd impressed with her seamless flow. Even though she feels it's still a novelty for some when they see a female spinning, she enjoys standing out and takes the accolades in stride. Her unique personality and professionalism continue to open many doors for her. She is very ambitious, humorous, and driven. She also aspires to include music production, artist management and sound engineering in her repertoire.
DJ MIM primarily is a club DJ with residencies at various clubs in the DC Metro area. She also performs at many community events, fashion shows, lounges, private parties, retail stores and weddings; has two weekly internet radio shows; and a mixshow on the first syndicated channel made available via cell phones. MIM is an A&R DJ, Certified Female DJ, Fleet DJ, Rock Solid Entertainment DJ and the official DJ for SoapboxX ™ Magazine. Additionally, she is the Official DJ for up-and-coming independent artists, creates and hosts mixtapes and is an event promoter.
“I don’t just play music...I feel music. I grew up in a household where music was always playing. As a kid I listened to bands like War and Earth, Wind & Fire and, of course, everything from Motown. I’ve always enjoyed the sounds of many instruments. DJing keeps me connected to what I love and have a passion for - music!” - DJ MIM
